Sigma-Valmon Skin Diver

Here is a wonderful and rare, all original Sigma-Valmon from the mid sixties in a very large size for the era. The black dial is in excellent condition with white lettering and very few signs of marks or wear. It has large lume hour markers and lume numerals at the poles. The faceted baton hands have the same original lume and are in fair condition with some visible corrosion. The seconds hand has a square lume-filled tip to make it easier to see. The 3 o’clock window displays the date in red, which can be semi quick-set by first turning the hands through midnight so the date changes, then immediately turning the hands backwards to 20:30 and then forward through midnight again. Repeat as necessary.
 
The black bakelite bezel with a large lume triangle at 0 rotates freely in both directions and is in fine condition with light overall wear. The stainless steel case has a brushed face and polished sides and in fine condition, with a few noticeable marks on the right side just above the crown as well as at the lugs, in particular the bottom lugs. The stainless steel case back is in very fine condition, with a few small marks and scratches.
 
The watch comes on an after market rubber diver strap of good quality.
 
Inside the watch, the high grade 2452 movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in January 2021 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
 
As divers watches go, this one really looks the part. It was considered enormous when it was released, with the large body and bezel and long lugs, and still makes an imposing presence on the wrist. Note that it is no longer very water resistant and should not be used for diving or swimming.
