Seiko World Time Tokyo Olympics

Here is a wonderful and rare, all original Seiko World Time from 1967. The charcoal sunburst dial is in very fine condition, with a steel Seiko logo and white lettering. It has a mottle of grey and brown spots and looks fabulous. The dial has faceted steel bar hour markers, wider at 12 o’clock. The rehaut contains the main cities in the 24 time zones, which can be set by turning the crown when it is fully depressed. Note that this movement cannot be manually wound. The baton hands are in very fine condition, the 24 hour hand in red with an arrow tip. The window at 3 o’clock displays the quick-set date.
 
The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, perhaps most noticeable at around 12 o’clock. The stainless steel case with the original crown and heavy lugs is in fine condition, with some overall wear. The stainless steel case back has a well preserved 1964 Tokyo Olympic games logo and is in fine condition with a few overall marks and scratches.
 
The watch comes on an after market leather strap of good quality.
 
Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 6217A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in September 2021 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
 
Seiko put on a strong display of horological cutting edge for the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, and their World Time watch set a precedent for GMT and time zone watches. The rare and fabulous dial on this watch makes it very desirable for a model that’s already very collectible.
