King Seiko Chronometer 56KS Hi-Beat Tropical Dial

Here is a fabulous, all original King Seiko 56KS Hi-Beat Chronometer from 1973. The silver sunburst dial has taken on a stunning purple patina in what is known as a tropical dial. It has steel Seiko and KS logos and steel strip hour markers with black contrast, double at 12 o’clock. The original dial color can be seen around the center and the hour markers in particular. The steel baton hands have the central black contrast stripe while the seconds hand is completely black. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock displays the quick-set date. The quick-set should only be used with the hands at the bottom half of the dial.
 
The stainless steel bezel is in fine condition with some overall wear, perhaps most notable at around 3 and 5 o’clock. The stainless case with the original KS crown and heavy, faceted lugs is in fine condition with light overall wear, mostly towards the lugs. The stainless steel case back has the KS engraving and is in fine condition with a few marks of wear.
 
The watch comes on an after market leather strap of good quality.
 
Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 5626B movement ticks away at the then very high frequency of 28800 beats per hour, beating strongly and accurately to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in March 2022 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
