Grand Seiko GS56 Hi-beat

Here is a lovely, all original Grand Seiko GS56 Hi-Beat from 1973 in a large size. The white dial is in fine condition, with steel Seiko and GS logos and black strip hour markers, double at 12 o’clock. There are a few discoloration spots from the center of the dial towards 3 o’clock and also at the Seiko logo. Around the edge of the dial there is some wear at 3, 5, 9 and 11 o’clock. The tapered hands are in very fine condition, with the characteristic seconds hand for this version without a center hole. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock shows the weekday and date, which can both be quick-set with the crown pulled out to the middle position.

The stainless steel bezel is in very fine condition, with light overall wear. The angular pillow shaped stainless steel case of the 7000 series has integrated lugs and the original GS crown and is in fine condition, with a brushed face and polished, sloped sides. It has a few marks of wear along the edges and on the slopes, most noticeable on the right side. The stainless steel case back has a well preserved gold GS medallion and is in very fine condition, with a few small scratches and marks.

The generic high quality Japanese made steel bracelet is in very fine condition, showing light stretching. It is big enough for large wrists.

Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 5646A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-10 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in May 2020 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
