Grand Seiko GS56 Hi-Beat

Here is a fantastic, all original Grand Seiko GS56 Hi-Beat from 1972. The silver sunburst dial is in very fine condition, with steel Seiko and GS logos and a very gentle and even patina. It has faceted steel strip hour markers, double at 12 o’clock. There is a small mark at around the 1 o’clock and some tiny spot around the dial which are not visible to the naked eye. The faceted steel dauphine hands are in very fine condition, with the characteristic seconds hand for this version without a center hole. When the crown is pulled out to set time, the hack stops the seconds hand for more accurate time setting. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock shows the date, which can be quick-set with the crown pulled out to the middle position.
 
The stainless steel bezel is in very fine condition, with barely any marks. The angular cushion shaped stainless steel case of the 8000 series has integrated lugs and the original GS crown and is in excellent condition, with a brushed face and polished, sloped sides. The polished case back has a well preserved gold GS medallion and is in very fine condition, with very few scratches and marks.
 
The original brick wall pattern stainless steel bracelet is in very fine visual condition with some stretching. The GS logo has come off the double-fold clasp as is unfortunately common with these bracelets, but the XQB040 code can be found inside the clasp. It is big enough for moderately large wrists.
 
Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 5645A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-12 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in November 2020 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
