Grand Seiko GS56 Hi-Beat Automatic

Here is a stunning, all original Grand Seiko GS56 Hi-Beat from 1972. The silver sunburst dial has taken on a unique caramel patina and is in very fine condition. It has steel Seiko and GS logos and strip hour markers painted black, double at 12 o’clock. There is some slight wear around the edge of the dial at around 7 o’clock, which isn’t visible to the naked eye. The tapered baton hands are in fine condition, with black central paint and the characteristic seconds hand without a central hole. The hack stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out to set the time, so the time can be set more accurately. The steel framed window at 3 o’clock displays the quick-set date. The quick-set should only be used with the hands at the bottom half of the dial.
 
The stainless steel bezel is in very fine condition with light overall wear. The stainless steel case with the original GS crown and embedded lugs is in very fine condition, with sharp angles between the brushed face and polished sides. It shows some overall wear. The stainless steel case back with the gold GS medallion is in fine condition with some overall wear, including on the edges of the medallion.
 
The watch comes on an after stainless steel bracelet of good quality. It is large enough for big wrists.
 
Inside the watch, Seiko’s high grade 5645A movement beats strongly and accurately to within about +-8 seconds per day. The watch was fully serviced in February 2022 and comes with a 12 month warranty on its proper mechanical functioning.
 
The fabulous dial and untouched condition of this GS56 gives it that very attractive vintage look. This is a watch that feels great on the wrist and it is a perfect daily driver.
